The Last Picture Show
Impending Demolition! The Looming Wrecking Ball! Was this to be The Last Picture Show ?
Over 35 visual and performing artists working in the historic former Silk Mill banded together to create an exhibition and site-specific installation to protest the destruction of the building and many residential homes on the block. The current local administration seemed poised to demolish the Historic Building built in 1895, forever marring the vital close knit and culturally diverse neighborhood.
The Artists invited the public to tour the building and see their work, which included painting, sculpture, video installation and live music. Visitors were able to experience how the building has and continues to impact the community and local economy. As part of the exhibition, an enormous yellow ribbon wrapped around the massive building sending a highly visible message of hope to the community and especially City Hall.
