Press Release
"HOMELESS GALLERY", "HIDDEN STAIRWAY" & "MISCELLANEOUS
OTHERS"
September 17 - October 2, 2005
Sponsored Realita and Galeria Bezdomna are pleased to present PARASOLKA FLOATS, a title that is merely an umbrella for several distinct approaches to art and the possibilities of exhibiting it in the historic Silk Mill.
The HOMELESS GALLERY (Galeria Bezdomna) is as much an event in spontaneous display as it is a showcase for contemporary photography. A sporadic informal approach to photographic exhibition has been the trademark of Galeria Bezdomna throughout Europe and this is the first time they perform their visual feat in the United States. For more info visit www.galeriabezdomna.art.pl.
In the HIDDEN STAIRWAY, site-specific works transform a staircase, abandoned for over 60 years, into a vertical gallery of contemporary art. Artists were challenged to explore the possible connections or disconnections that can be derived from this unusual art space. Video, sound, and light installations breathe new life to an otherwise dreary and at times scary place.
MISCELLANEOUS OTHERS was the only name that could describe the possible interactions between art and site. Artists in various mediums were free to interact with the endless mutations the Silk Mill can inspire. Spaces large and small, wet and dry, high and low become demanding places for ambitious artists to face the daunting scale and beauty the mill possesses.
The exhibit also features an OPEN STUDIO SHOW. Visitors are invited to tour working spaces and meet resident artists creating a variety of work throughout the Silk Mill.
The exhibition will be on view at the Silk Mill - 540 39th Street Union City, NJ. Hours are Noon to 6pm, Saturdays and Sundays. There will be an opening reception on Saturday September 17th, 7pm to Midnight.
For many years, Sponsored Realita at The Silk Mill has been a true alternative art site providing a creative haven for resident, local, and invited artists. For additional information & directions visit www.sponsoredrealita.com
